EV Charger Installation in Kuala Lumpur (2026 Prices)

6 min read
Short answer: EvGuru installs home EV chargers across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. A full package (charger plus installation) is RM3,590 for a 7kW single-phase setup or RM3,990 for 22kW three-phase. If you already have a charger, install-only starts at RM1,679. Every job is done by an ST-licensed installer with a Type A RCCB and a 2-year warranty.

If you live in KL and you have just bought an EV, or you are about to, this page covers what a home charger installation actually involves here: which areas we cover, what it costs, what decides 7kW versus 22kW, and what to sort out first if you live in a condo.

The RM2,500 tax relief

Malaysia's income tax relief for EV charging equipment lets you claim up to RM2,500. To claim it you need an itemised invoice that shows the charger and installation, not a single lump-sum figure. Ask for one, and keep it with your tax records.

7kW or 22kW: what your house can take

This is the question that decides your price, and the answer depends on two things: the power supply to your house, and how fast your car can actually charge on AC.

  • Single-phase houses take a 7kW charger. TNB's own home charging guide says a single-phase supply supports a total load of up to 10kW (paultan.org), which is why 22kW is not an option on single-phase.

  • Three-phase houses can take 22kW, and so can cars with a big onboard charger. Many cars sold here only accept 7kW to 11kW on AC, so a 22kW unit charges them no faster. We go through car by car in 7kW vs 22kW: which one do you actually need.

  • Thinking of upgrading to three-phase? Only TNB can approve that. Read single-phase or three-phase: which EVs actually need the upgrade before you apply.

Living in a KL condo?

Condo installs are common in KL, but they need approval from your management (JMB or MC) first. We can't promise an install date until the building agrees. Our condo EV charging page explains how it works, and the JMB approval guide covers what to submit. Renting? See installing a charger in a rented house.

How a KL installation works, step by step

  1. Send us a WhatsApp. Tell us your area, whether it is a landed house or a condo, your car, and whether you have single- or three-phase supply if you know.

  2. We check the site. Where we need to see the distribution board and cable route in person, the site visit is RM300 and is refunded if you go ahead.

  3. You get a fixed quote. Package or install-only, with the cable length and protection spelled out.

  4. An ST-licensed installer does the work. A dedicated circuit from your board, a Type A RCCB, and up to 15m of 6mm² cable included.

  5. We test it with you and hand over. You get an itemised invoice for the tax relief, and the 2-year warranty starts.

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. For the paperwork side (ST licensing and when TNB needs to be involved), see EV charger installation requirements in Malaysia and do you need TNB approval for a home charger. For how the days line up, see the installation timeline.

What people actually ask

These are the questions KL and Klang Valley owners keep raising, from forums, motoring press and our own search data.

1. "Can I get a charger in my suburb?"

Our own Search Console data (Aug to Nov 2026) shows people searching by area: "ev charger cheras", "ev charger selangor", "ev charging stations petaling jaya". The answer for all of these is yes: we cover all of KL, Selangor, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

2. "If whole taman one phase, can a house install 3 phase?"

Asked by katijar on Lowyat.NET. Three-phase supply is TNB's call, not the installer's. A 7kW single-phase charger is the usual answer and suits most cars sold here.

3. "Single phase charge over night?"

Asked by DarkNite in the same Lowyat thread. Yes. Overnight on a 7kW single-phase wallbox is how most of our KL customers charge.

4. "Usually how much to upgrade to 3 phases?"

Asked by Seawater on Lowyat.NET. The upgrade itself goes through TNB, so we don't quote it. Check first whether your car would even use 22kW.

5. "It's not plug and play."

That is how SoyaCincau (13 Oct 2025) put it. A proper install needs a dedicated circuit, the right protection and a check of your supply, which is what the package price covers.

6. "Mode 1, or direct wall socket charging is not permitted"

From TNB's home charging guide, as reported by paultan.org. Plugging the car's cable straight into an ordinary socket is out; use a proper wallbox or a portable charger on a checked circuit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does EV charger installation cost in Kuala Lumpur?

EvGuru's full package is RM3,590 for a 7kW single-phase charger or RM3,990 for a 22kW three-phase charger, including installation, a Type A RCCB, up to 15m of 6mm² cable and a 2-year warranty. Install-only (you supply the charger) is RM1,679 single-phase or RM1,749 three-phase.

Which areas around KL do you cover?

All of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. Outside the Klang Valley we also install in Ipoh, Johor, Melaka and Penang.

Do I need three-phase power for a 22kW charger?

Yes. TNB's guide says a single-phase supply supports a total load of up to 10kW, so a 22kW charger needs three-phase. A 7kW charger works on single-phase, and many cars cannot charge faster than 7kW to 11kW on AC anyway.

Can I install an EV charger in my KL condo?

Usually yes, but your JMB or management corporation has to approve it first. We can help with the application, but we cannot promise a date until the building agrees.

Can I claim tax relief on a home EV charger?

You can claim up to RM2,500 in income tax relief for EV charging equipment. You need an itemised invoice showing the charger and installation, so ask for one and keep it.

Is there a fee for the site visit?

The site visit is RM300, and it is refunded if you go ahead with the installation.
