Proton e.MAS 7 Home Charging Guide Malaysia 2026

The Proton e.MAS 7 has an 11 kW three-phase onboard AC charger and a Type 2 port — which means the right home setup is a smart wallbox, not just a 13A wall socket. On three-phase power, a full charge takes roughly 5 hours for the Prime (49.52 kWh) and 6.1 hours for the Premium (60.22 kWh). On the more common single-phase supply, a 7.4 kW wallbox fills both variants overnight in 7–9 hours — perfectly adequate for most Malaysian daily driving patterns.

The 60-Second Answer: What Setup Does the e.MAS 7 Need?

  • Port type: Type 2 (three-phase capable). No adapter needed for Malaysian public chargers or any Type 2 wallbox.

  • Onboard AC charger: 11 kW (three-phase), per official PRO-NET specifications reported by Malay Mail. On a single-phase supply, the car draws a maximum of 7.4 kW.

  • Best home setup for landed homes: Guru Swift Advance 7.4 kW–22 kW smart wallbox, installed by a licensed Wireman with a Type B RCD on a dedicated circuit.

  • Best home setup for condos: Depends on your JMB/MC approval and car park wiring — get a site assessment first. See the condo charging guide.

  • Do you need three-phase power? Only if you want the fastest possible home charge (5–6 hrs). A single-phase 7.4 kW wallbox still fills the car overnight, which is enough for most owners.

  • Running cost: As low as RM22 per full charge on TNB domestic tariff (Prime variant). See the cost table below.

  • Tip: TNB now offers an optional Time-of-Use (ToU) tariff for households with Smart Meters. Charging overnight during off-peak hours can reduce your effective rate further — ask at your nearest Kedai Tenaga.

  • Public DC fast charging typically costs RM1.20–RM1.80/kWh. Home charging at RM0.45/kWh is 3–4× cheaper per kWh, making a wallbox the single best investment for any e.MAS 7 owner.

Landed Home vs Condo: Your Installation Path

Landed homeowners

The process is straightforward: a licensed Wireman runs a dedicated circuit from your distribution board, installs a Type B RCD and dedicated MCB, mounts the wallbox (garage wall or car porch), and commissions the charger. Most landed-home installations complete in a single day. See the full step-by-step landed-home EV charger installation guide.

If you want 11 kW charging and your home currently has single-phase supply, a TNB three-phase upgrade is required first — this is a separate TNB application, and EVGuru can guide you through the process. Cost is quoted per project after a site assessment.

Condo and apartment owners

Condo installation requires written approval from your Joint Management Body (JMB) or Management Corporation (MC) before any work begins — this is mandatory under Suruhanjaya Tenaga guidelines. A dedicated sub-meter is typically required so electricity costs are billed to your unit rather than common facilities. Visit the condo and apartment charging page for the full approval process and what to bring to your JMB meeting.

EVGuru handles commercial and multi-bay condo projects directly — including presenting to JMB committees, drafting the technical proposal, and managing all ST-compliant paperwork. See commercial EV charging solutions for multi-bay and car park projects.

The one mistake to avoid: Installing a 7.4 kW single-phase wallbox and assuming you are charging at full speed. The Proton e.MAS 7 has an 11 kW three-phase OBC. On single-phase, the car is limited to what the single phase can deliver — about 7.4 kW. That is perfectly fine for overnight charging. But if you upgrade to three-phase supply later, make sure your wallbox also supports three-phase (like the Guru Swift Advance); otherwise you have paid for a supply upgrade but cannot benefit from faster charging.

FAQ

Does the Proton e.MAS 7 need a three-phase charger at home?

Not necessarily. The e.MAS 7 has an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger, but it will also accept single-phase power up to 7.4 kW. On a standard single-phase supply (which most Malaysian homes have), a 7.4 kW wallbox charges the Prime variant in about 7.5 hours and the Premium in about 9 hours. That is enough time for an overnight charge. You only need three-phase if you want to unlock the full 11 kW charging speed (5–6.1 hours) or if you plan to future-proof for a higher-powered EV later.

Can I charge the e.MAS 7 from a normal 13A wall socket?

Technically yes, using a Mode 2 portable cable — but at only ~3 kW it takes 18–22 hours for a full charge on the e.MAS 7. A regular socket is also not rated for continuous high-current overnight loads and lacks the dedicated circuit protection required by ST guidelines. A dedicated wallbox with a Type B RCD is the only safe, ST-compliant long-term solution. Reserve the 13A socket for genuine emergencies.

How much does it cost to charge a Proton e.MAS 7 at home per month in Malaysia?

Based on the TNB domestic composite rate of approximately RM0.45/kWh (effective from July 2025 under the RP4 tariff structure, for households using ≤1,500 kWh/month), a full charge of the Prime (49.52 kWh) costs about RM22 and the Premium (60.22 kWh) about RM27. PRO-NET's own research shows most Malaysian e.MAS 7 owners drive 21–40 km daily, meaning roughly one full charge per week. That works out to approximately RM89–RM108 per month — a fraction of what the same distance would cost on petrol.

What charger port does the Proton e.MAS 7 use?

The e.MAS 7 uses a standard Type 2 (Mennekes) port for AC charging, compatible with all Type 2 wallboxes including the Guru Swift and Guru Swift Advance. For DC fast charging, it uses a CCS2 combo port. No adapter is needed for any EVGuru wallbox or Malaysian public Type 2 charger. If you own a different Proton model with a Type 1 port, EVGuru supplies the Type 1 to Type 2 adapter and all compatible charging cables.

How long does a condo EV charger installation take for the e.MAS 7 in Malaysia?

The physical installation itself usually takes one day once approvals are in place. The longer part is obtaining written approval from your JMB or MC — this can take two to eight weeks depending on how quickly your building management schedules a committee meeting. EVGuru prepares the full technical proposal and can present directly to your JMB committee, which typically accelerates the process. Start the approval process as early as possible, ideally before taking delivery of your car.

Can I claim tax relief on the e.MAS 7 home charger installation in Malaysia?

Yes. Individual EV owners can claim up to RM2,500 in personal income tax relief for home EV charging facility expenses — covering both the wallbox purchase and installation cost. This relief has been extended to Year of Assessment 2027 under Budget 2026, per multiple sources including the Ringgit Calculator YA 2026 relief guide. Keep your EVGuru invoice and installation receipt, and claim it under the EV charging facility category when filing with LHDN.
